There are also a variety of TikTok aesthetics out there that are gaining popularity, such as the pink aesthetic, and we’ll be learning what filters to use for those too! Let’s get started!
Add Special Effects
Special effects can really help add a cool twist to your video, and I’d definitely recommend trying these out on your videos in order to enhance their aesthetic. Different effects work best, depending on the overall ambience you’re going for. For instance, if you have a video including skyscrapers or buildings, you could make the video look super futuristic and almost cyberpunk-esque by adding some glitch effects. Or if you want to make it look more vaporwave-esque, you could try adding a VHS effect and some slight distortion effects.
Types of Special Effects You Should Try Out
Some types of special effects you could apply include:
Glitch effects: For a futuristic twist, glitch effects are great for this! VHS: Give your video a retro feel by adding a VHS filter to your video. This will make your video have a super retro ambience overall. Sparkles: Add a touch of glitz and glamour to the video with aesthetic sparkles! A video showing you how to do this is included below. Film grain: For a retro overlay, why not try adding some film grain to your videos? This will simulate those vintage videos we’ve all known to love and can add an old-fashioned yet aesthetic ambience to video.
Apps that allow you to add these special effects include InShot, Snow and 90s (90s is available for Android only). These apps come with a huge range of amazing effects you can make use of. Some of my favourite mobile apps for creating aesthetic videos for TikTok are discussed further below.
Apply an Aesthetic Font to Text
If you’re looking to create an aesthetic video, then I’d recommend applying some fonts which reflect the ambience you’re going for. Sparkles and other particle effects can really add to the aesthetic of a video, so I’d definitely recommend playing around with these and seeing if they work! The video below shows you how to apply them. Some super aesthetic fonts are included in the graphic below, such as Nine by Five and Arialle. However, if you don’t have this Arialle, you could try using Arial instead, as this is a great alternative. Text effects could also be applied to further enhance the aesthetic, such as adding a text shadow behind the text. You’ll see this effect applied to all of the examples in the graphic below, including the Calistoga font, which includes a red text shadow behind the text. Pastel font colors can also look great overall, such as shades of light pink, beige and sky blue. These will add a gentle and soft aesthetic to the video and would pair nicely with other special effects and retro overlays.

Try Recreating a Particular Aesthetic
You could also try recreating a particular aesthetic in your videos too! For instance, if you’re a fan of the purple aesthetic, you could try applying a purple filter to your video, as well as some particle effects and sparkles for an added touch of magic. Make sure to take a look at a variety of aesthetic videos online to help you gain inspiration as to what types of filters and effects to use. For instance, if you notice a retro video that has film grain and other retro overlays applied, you could search for these effects in your preferred video editing app and apply them to your video. Or, if you like the neon aesthetic, why not add some special effects such as glitch effects to your video? It would add a futuristic and unique twist to the video’s aesthetic overall! There are so many aesthetics out there to choose from, including the pink aesthetic, pastel aesthetic and so much more. Or if it’s the festive season, you could add snowflakes and other festive touches to your video. For more examples, be sure to check out some of the video examples provided in my guide to the most viral Christmas TikTok dances. It features a variety of compilation videos, which can be great ways to get inspiration for creating certain aesthetics and so forth.
Mobile Apps Available
There’s a plethora of mobile apps available to help you filter and transform your videos, including InShot and Vivacut. I’m going to discuss some of my favourite apps out there to help you get started!
Vivacut (iOS and Android)
The first mobile app I’d recommend for aesthetic cuts and beautiful effects is Vivacut, which is available for both Android and iOS. This app makes it super easy to concatenate videos together, apply lovely transitions between them and add cute filters and effects. What’s great about this app is that it provides resizing for TikTok, so if you want to export your video for TikTok, then this app does that for you easily. It can be handy if you’re going to be uploading to TikTok regularly and don’t want to resize all your videos all the time.
90s (Android only)
The 90s app offers a fantastic selection of special effects, overlays and filters you can apply to your videos. With an extensive feature set, this app has been a go-to video editor of mine for quite some time now. I also love that you can apply text to your videos quickly and easily. Some of my favourite effects provided by this app include VHS filters, glitch effects and retro filters. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a great Android app to help make aesthetic videos for TikTok!
